FAMCO plays integral role in the launch of Dubai Metro

FAMCO’s Storage & Handling Solutions (SHS) Division has successfully completed the first phase of its contract to supply a total of 180 Fire Rated and Insulated Shutter Doors to the main depots of the new Dubai Metro. The first two depots of Jebel Ali and Al Rashidiya are now proudly equipped with Hart Shutter Doors from the UK, a brand exclusively distributed by FAMCO across the UAE.

Detailed work started on FAMCO’s bid in the summer of 2007, and the contract was finally awarded in January 2008. Success was achieved after multiple meetings and presentations with the main contractor, who awarded FAMCO the contract on the basis of product quality, technical expertise, project management systems and general follow-up and professionalism throughout the tender process. The operation of the shutters is such that they are designed to operate within the overall depot protection systems, which are very complex given the driver-less operation of the trains.

The first phase of the Red Line (Jebel Ali + Al Rashidiya depots) has been completed well ahead of schedule and to the required specification – to the delight of the main contractor. The FAMCO technical team and site staff had to work to very tight deadlines indeed, and were ably supported by the team from Hart Doors back in the UK with all deliveries made on time, and zero product quality problems.

Currently the SHS Division’s Doors & Docking Systems team is working on the Green Line at the Al Ghusais depot, which is scheduled for completion early next year.
