May 08, 2011 - FAMCO apprentice technicians in first ever acheivement
May 08, 2011
FAMCO has recognised two of its Apprentice Technicians for achieving an important automotive industry certification. The Level 2 NVQ Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Heavy Vehicle) certification is from the Institute of Motor Industry (IMI) in the UK – a professional association for individuals working in the motor industry and the recognised bench mark for setting standards in the industry.
This is the first time ever that this qualification has been awarded outside the UK, and hence a first for the GCC and a first for the UAE!
Apprentice Technicians Mohammed Azmat Khan and Kamran Minhas who are based in FAMCO’s Truck & Bus Division’s workshop facility in Dubai, were awarded their completion certificates by Len Hunt, President – Automotive, and Paul Floyd, MD – FAMCO, and were congratulated for completing this sought after industry certification. This qualification allows the two FAMCO team members to graduate from apprenticeship to technician status and means they are just one step away from being fully certified technicians that can work on VOLVO trucks and buses.
At the awarding ceremony, Len Hunt, President of Automotive at Al-Futtaim said, “This qualification raises the bar for service levels not only for Al-Futtaim Group but for the entire automotive industry in the UAE. Our commitment to superior after sales service is well known and through training and development of our team members, we will continue to maintain our position as the leading automotive company in the region.”
Paul Floyd, Managing Director at FAMCO said, “FAMCO takes pride in training and developing its people. We firmly believe that investment in our team members directly relates to better service for our customers. The IMI training allows our apprentices to develop from a very solid technical base, to being qualified and internationally recognised, and ensures that whenever a Volvo truck or bus requires service, a qualified technician, probably one of the best in the UAE, is able to look after it."
The IMI Level 2 Qualification trains technicians in 8 subjects such as workshop housekeeping, health and safety, vehicle maintenance, engine unit components, electrical accessory units, commercial vehicle chassis inspection and pre & post work vehicle inspections. The workshop technicians are now working on their IMI Level 3 which will allow them to be fully certified workshop technicians for heavy vehicles.
